Scottish Birds

Photographs of Scottish birds taken on my travels.  Sometimes I set out to get images of a particular bird, but more often it's just a case of taking the camera along on a walk, and seeing what turns up.

Whooper Swans

Whooper swans migrate to Scotland during the winter months, traveling from their breeding grounds in Iceland and other parts of the Arctic. Known for their distinctive trumpet-like calls and striking white plumage with yellow and black bills, they are a welcome sight in Scotland’s wetlands, lochs, and coastal areas. These swans undertake long, arduous journeys to escape the harsh Arctic winters, finding refuge in Scotland’s milder climate and abundant food sources. Their arrival is often seen as a sign of the changing seasons, and they are celebrated for their beauty and grace, contributing to Scotland’s rich biodiversity.
