Out & About With My Camera

Pentland Hills

The Pentland Hills are a scenic range of hills located just south of Edinburgh, Scotland, offering stunning views of the city, the surrounding countryside, and beyond. The area is easily accessible by public transport and car, with several entry points including the village of Penicuik, Flotterstone, and the area near the Edinburgh Bypass. Popular for hiking, walking, and cycling, the hills feature well-maintained trails, including paths suitable for all levels of walkers. Key landmarks include the summit of Scald Law, the highest peak, and various reservoirs like Threipmuir. The area is part of the Pentland Hills Regional Park, which offers visitor amenities such as car parks, picnic areas, and information boards. For those seeking more facilities, nearby towns provide cafes, shops, and accommodation options.

Scald Law from Flotterstone

Scald Law is the highest of the Pentland hills.  If you go from Flotterstone, you will also climb Turnhouse and Carnethy hills – Carnethy is the second highest of the Pentland hills, so this is a fairly strenuous walk.  More details are available on this PAGE

Unfortunately, for me, there are usually a few interesting birds on this walk, so not only do I have to climb some very high hills, I usually take a heavy camera and zoom lens.

I have just lumped the images from several climbs together in this gallery.
