Curlew Versus Crab

Walking along the coastal path at Musselburgh when I spotted a Curlew splashing about in the mouth of the River Esk at low Tide.

It was a fair distance away and I thought it had a bit of seaweed in its beak which it was thrashing about.

I had a long telephoto  lens on, so I took some shots - it was only when I zoomed in on the shots later, that I realised it was a crab, and the thrashing about was to manoeuvre it about until it was in the correct position for cracking open.

Later on I saw it take on a much larger crab - that time the crab won!
