So that’s Why Curlews Have Such a Long Beak!
Curlew Versus Crab
Walking along the coastal path at Musselburgh when I spotted a Curlew splashing about in the mouth of the River Esk at low Tide.
It was a fair distance away and I thought it had a bit of seaweed in its beak which it was thrashing about.
I had a long telephoto lens on, so I took some shots - it was only when I zoomed in on the shots later, that I realised it was a crab, and the thrashing about was to manoeuvre it about until it was in the correct position for cracking open.
Later on I saw it take on a much larger crab - that time the crab won!
