Stirling Castle
From a distance, Stirling Castle looks like Edinburgh Castle. They are both similar in the way that they are constructed atop a rocky plug.
Actually when you get closer, the steep cliffs at Stirling are even more impressive than at Edinburgh Castle.
The site was carefully chosen for its defensive position, and its strategic position guarding the crossing on the River Forth.
Historically, the castle has been closely associated with important battles such as Bannockburn and the battle of Stirling Bridge.
It has also been besieged many times.
