Walk along any river bank in Scotland and you stand a good chance of seeing a Kingfisher.  Unfortunately, more often than not, all you see is a flash of blue as the kingfisher flies along the river.

The trick is to try and find the favourite perch where the Kingfisher does his fishing from - and then be patient and wait for it to turn up!

Even then, remember that these are very small birds, and a pair of binoculars will help a lot.

One favourite spot in Edinburgh is the pond in Edinburgh Botanic Gardens where some of these pictures were taken.  The great thing here is that the birds in the Botanics are well used to people, and will often let you get a good bit closer than is usual for wild birds.
