Frogs and Toads
Frogs and toads are both amphibians found in the UK, but they have distinct differences in appearance, behavior, and habitat. Frogs, such as the common frog (Rana temporaria), have smooth, moist skin, long hind legs for jumping, and are typically found near ponds, lakes, or damp areas. Toads, like the common toad (Bufo bufo), have drier, warty skin, shorter legs for walking rather than jumping, and are often found in woodlands, gardens, or drier environments. Frogs lay their eggs in clumps, while toads lay theirs in long strings. Both play vital roles in ecosystems, but toads are more terrestrial and tend to travel farther from water than frogs.
