St Ninian's Isle, Shetland is a small island connected to the mainland by a narrow spit of land.
This spit is known as a tombolo.  In summertime, this tombolo is usually above the sea level making the island accessible by foot.  Storms in the winter tend to erode the spit, so at high tide it is usually covered up.
The island has religious connections, and in 1958 a silver treasure was discovered hidden under the floor of the church.
